Changes to directors' tax returns
From the 2025/26 tax year onwards, directors will be required to provide additional information in their tax returns. They will need to complete a seperate employment page (SA102) for each directorship, confirming that they were a director in the tax year . They will also have to indicate whether the company was a “close company”.
A close company is a UK-resident company controlled five or fewer shareholders or by shareholders who are also directors.Â
Where the company is a close company, the reporting goes further. Directors will need to provide:
- The company’s name (box 7.1);
- The company’s registration number (box 7.2);
- The dividend received from that close company (box 7.3), even if the amount is zero, and
- The total percentage of the share capital held in the company (box 7.4), even if the percentage held is zero.
